What We Are Doing

The Center for Help has been assisting those in need since 1999 and never in its history has it seen such a demand. Many of the lower income members in our community are essential workers and risk exposure to the virus.  Others have seen their work and wages dry up creating an urgent need for simply the basics.  Entire families have been infected with COVID-19 making their situation extremely dire.  Many families do not have the means to travel to an already overwhelmed Food Bank.

In response to this crisis created by the COVID-19 pandemic, The Center for Help, in direct coordination with the Health Department, has dramatically ramped up its activities by purchasing and delivering food to those in need.  The actions of our volunteers are not only saving the lives of the poor in our community, but their actions are also preventing the spread of the virus by allowing those infected to stay at home and not venture out to obtain food.

Your Donations At Work

Your donation will go to help families like Maria’s.  Maria is a middle-school student whose life has been turned upside down.  Her parents both lost their jobs.  When her father took ill in March the thought of another bill prevented him from seeking immediate medical attention.  Her father became an early victim of COVID-19 and passed away at home.  Today, Maria, her mother and her three sisters remain in quarantine and face the pain of loss and the fears of an uncertain future.

Donations also help 17 year-old Angela, who is caring for 8 children including her 1 year-old cousin.  The adults are all sick and quarantined in a separate apartment.  The Center of Help is providing food to all and finding ways to send prepared meals for the children. The Center is going beyond just providing food but has also provided online mentors to Angela and all the students to help with schoolwork and to make sure they remain emotionally stable during this hardship.

All donations are greatly appreciated, and no donation is too small.
