WELCOME TO THE CENTER OF HELP
Serving the Immigrant Community in Anne Arundel County since 1999
María de la Paz Youth Outreach Center
A place to heal from traumatic experiences
The Center of Help, in partnership with the Police Department, Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth and Families, Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center, Arundel Lodge, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, and the City of Annapolis, will provide activities that will help youth between the ages of 13-17 to feel safe, emotionally stable, and engaged. This program will address migration stressors (i.e. traumatic events, migration experiences, discrimination, gang pressures, acculturation, and documentation status) possible emotional concerns (i.e. depression, anxiety, mood instability), or other behavioral concerns. According to Cleary, Dietz-Chavez, et al., (2017) it is highly recommended that “access to culturally sensitive assessment and treatment services be available to ensure transition to a healthy adulthood.” Annapolis and other cities in Anne Arundel County suffer from a scarcity of bilingual mental health practitioners and safe space(s) for young Hispanic/Latino Youth. This lack of resources may have contributed to the increasing levels of Hispanic/Latino youth gangs and the associated negative emotional and behavioral consequences. PLEASE DONATE!
