Greetings from the Center of Help

Greetings from the Center,

Have you heard about the exciting programs the Center of Help has to offer? Maria de la Paz Outreach Center or the Adult Academy Program? This month’s Newsletter will highlight several of these programs and provide additional information for you to share and/or become a part of our community. We welcome new volunteers and new sponsors every day.

Speaking of great programs, it was almost three years ago that I was invited to become a volunteer Teacher’s Assistant and help with the Saturday morning Leadership and Learning Art class. For many of these Saturdays, we spent time teaching the correlations between Art, Science, and local environmental needs. Eventually, we expanded this program to include hiking, native plantings, canoe trips and encouraged the youth members to understand what volunteering is all about by asking them to volunteer themselves. Environmental Awareness is a way of life for me. I am pleased the Youth Academy members are always eager to learn and participate in any of the activities we arrange.

I appreciated my interactions with the Center of Help so much that after 2 years of volunteering as the Teacher’s Assistant I was offered a position on the Board of Directors, and gladly accepted, where I now serve as the Treasurer. The dedication of the staff and volunteers at the Center is always inspiring. As a member of the Board, we continue to be engaged in finding solutions toward overcoming the challenges the organization and the community have endured over the course of the last year. I continue to be amazed at the level of effort this group takes on. They have processed more than 2,000 cases, provided food for hundreds of families, and “now” work toward assisting those who lost their jobs and/or homes. The Youth Academy Programs are also expanding, and there is an increase in adult participation!

None of this could be possible without the generosity of our donors and volunteers. I would argue their efforts are unmatched. The community thanks you and hopes you will continue to offer your support. There are multiple ways to help. Monetary donations are accepted via PayPal, Amazon Smile and/or check and money order by writing the check to Center of Help, Inc. Our address is 1906 Forest Drive, Suite 2A-2B, Annapolis, MD 21401. Thank you to everyone who continues to make this possible.
