This past May, Center of Help partnered with the Anne Arundel County Department of Health to bring on a team of Community Health Ambassadors who have been conducting outreach and collecting survey data regarding COVID-19 vaccination. Our Health Ambassadors have been providing information and resources to assist community members in making the decision to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated against COVID-19. The team has gone door to door in Annapolis, Brooklyn Park, and Glen Burnie, and partnered with local businesses, restaurants, and grocery stores to meet people where they are in order to offer handouts, PPE, and assistance with signing up for appointments.
The Community Health Ambassadors team has also conducted outreach and volunteered at food pantries throughout the county, and provided Spanish/English interpretation at local vaccination pop-up clinics. Our dynamic team has reached more than 1500 households with not only information about the COVID-19 vaccines in addition to contact information for the Center of Help and other services. Even though many pandemic restrictions have been relaxed, with the spread of new, more contagious variants of the coronavirus — such as the Delta variant — vaccination against COVID-19 is proving to be more important than ever. Having registered more than 100 individuals for vaccination appointments, Center of Help’s Community Health Ambassadors are doing their part in mitigating the continued impact of COVID-19 on our communities.
